The Practice Nurses are responsible for basic nursing care such as dressings, ear syringing etc.
A very large amount of the practice nurses time is involved in the monitoring and management of chronic diseases. The practice nurses follow approved clinic protocols to monitor conditions such as ischaemic heart disease, chronic obstructive airways disease, asthma, diabetes and hypertension. They have regular educational updates in their fields of interest.
Practice nurses liaise with other members of the primary care team where necessary to ensure appropriate care is provided.
Practice nurses are available for guidance and monitoring of the health care assistants.
Practice nurses also provide preventive health care such as vaccinations, well person health checks and routine dietary advice, smoking advice and treatment.
