Physiotherapy

  • Physiotherapists help and treat people of all ages with physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing.
  • Physiotherapy helps people to improve their range of movement in order to promote health and well-being. This can help people to live more independently.
  • Physiotherapy involves a range of treatments, including manipulation, massage and exercise.
  • Physiotherapy techniques can improve your ability to use parts of the body that are affected by disease or injury. For example, arthritis is a long-term condition that causes painful and stiff joints. Physiotherapy can help to keep the joints mobile and strengthen the surrounding muscles.

Midwifes

    • Community midwives are the primary provider of antenatal and postnatal care.
    • They are also responsible for overseeing home deliveries.
    • They are experts in maternity care but where necessary will refer patients on to their obstetrician or GP.

Roma

Senior Receptionist and Adminstrative Assistant

Roma is our senior receptionists and administration assistants. She has worked at Whitworth Medical Centre since 2001 and is responsible for assisting in the smooth running of the reception area. Roma studied hard to achieve the AMSPAR Diploma in Primary Care Management in February 2008.

Roma is also responsible for several administration roles including the over-seeing of the Cervical Smear Screening Program.

Alison

Reception Manager

Alison joined the practice in 2004 as a receptionist, soon progressed to senior receptionist and we were delighted that she accepted the position of reception manager a couple of years later.  She is responsible for the smooth running of the reception and telephone lines.

Miss Sharon Smith

Practice Manager - Female

Sharon joined the team  in September 2021 as our Practice manager.

District Nurses

The District Nursing Team are  not a part of our practice and are not based with us but we work closely with their team  to serve our patients needs. They are based at the Smallbridge Clinic

  • The district nursing team supply similar services as Practice nurses to patients who are housebound temporarily or permanently.
  • District nurses specialise in dressings and in particular care for leg ulcers.
  • District nurses are often responsible for post operative or post discharge care after a patient is discharged from hospital.
  • District nurses are often heavily involved in care for terminally ill patients (in conjunction with the Macmillan nurses).

Healthcare Assistants

  • Healthcare assistants are not fully qualified nurses.
  • They are however trained in many of the basic nursing fields in order to free up the specialist practice and district nurses time.
  • Healthcare assistants are responsible for taking blood samples, measuring blood pressure, taking ECG’s(heart traces), obtaining weight/height readings etc.
  • They follow set guidelines and have specific advice about when to seek advice from the practice nurse or doctor.

Rachel

Practice Nurse - Female

Rachel joined our team in March 2013. An experienced nurse with a varied nursing background, this is Rachel’s first post in Primary care.

Ever keen to learn and use her knowledge to improve patient care Rachel has successfully completed Diploma Modules in Chronic Disease Management for both Diabetes and Respiratory Disease.

Rachel has a keen interest in weight management and healthy lifestyles.

Practice Nurses

  • The Practice Nurses are responsible for basic nursing care such as dressings, ear syringing etc.
  • A very large amount of the practice nurses time is involved in the monitoring and management of chronic diseases. The practice nurses follow approved clinic protocols to monitor conditions such as ischaemic heart disease, chronic obstructive airways disease, asthma, diabetes and hypertension. They have regular educational updates in their fields of interest.
  • Practice nurses liaise with other members of the primary care team where necessary to ensure appropriate care is provided.
  • Practice nurses are available for guidance and monitoring of the health care assistants.
  • Practice nurses also provide preventive health care such as vaccinations, well person health checks and routine dietary advice, smoking advice and treatment.

Dr Rasheed

BSc MB.BS. 1987, FRCSI, MRCGP - Male

Dr Rasheed joined the Whitworth Medical Centre in 2001.
Dr Rasheed is trained in use of the dermoscope to assess skin lesions and moles. He is responsible for our cryotherapy sessions.
